While the regular post-mortem process in a suicide case takes several hours or even a day or two, the quick handing over of the body raises suspicion as to why the farmer's body was taken for post-mortem immediately and then sent to his hometown Kongunapuram, in Edappadi near Salem.
At about 10 am this morning, Boopathy (61) a farmer from Salem consumed poison and died in front of the Indian Bank on Variety Hall road here, allegedly due to pressure of loan repayment by the bank.
At 11 am, the Variety Hall road police shifted his body to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for post-mortem.
From 11 am to 3 pm, Boopathy's body was kept in the ambulance inside the Government Hospital. Usually, the body of the deceased is shifted to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination. However, his body was kept inside the ambulance until the post-mortem.
At about 3 pm, the post-mortem commenced and by 5:15 pm all formalities were completed. The body was handed over to Boopathy's relatives who left with the body in an ambulance to his hometown Edappadi in Salem.
In the event of any suicide, it usually takes at least 24 hours for the police to finish the legal formalities and hand over the body. But to the contrary, in this case, the police seems to have dealt with procedures in lightning speed which has raised suspicion.
