Sexual assault and murder of siblings: SC upholds death sentence to prime accused Manoharan

Coimbatore : The Supreme Court today upheld the conviction of Manoharan, one of the prime accused in the rape and murder of school-going siblings, which shook Coimbatore almost a decade ago.


Coimbatore : The Supreme Court today upheld the conviction of Manoharan, one of the prime accused in the rape and murder of school-going siblings, which shook Coimbatore almost a decade ago. 



Muskan (10) and Rithik (7), the children of Textile Dealer Ranjith Jain, were abducted on October 29, 2010, allegedly for a ransom.



The girl was sexually assaulted and dumped into a Parmabikulam-Aliyar-Project (PAP) canal near Udumalpet.

Police arrested Mohanakrishnan, the chief conspirator and his accomplice Manoharan in the kidnap, sexual assault and the murder of the siblings in the case

The duo have sexually assaulted the girl and tortured the boy before drowning them both in the PAP canal. 



While the prime accused Mohanakrishnan was shot dead in self-defence by the Police when he tried to escape on November 1, 2012. Manoharan was given one death sentence and three life terms of imprisonment.

But the accused has appealed against the verdict of the trail court.

However, the Supreme Court has upheld Manoharan’s death sentence in the siblings' sexual assault and murder case.
