Coimbatore: The Special Task Force (STF) on Tuesday arrested three people for duping people on the pretext of getting jobs abroad. The trio have allegedly collected up to Rs. 35 lakhs through their placement agency operated in the city.
Coimbatore: The Special Task Force (STF) on Tuesday arrested three people for duping people on the pretext of getting jobs abroad. The trio have allegedly collected up to Rs. 35 lakhs through their placement agency operated in the city.
Since 2017, the trio have been on the crime list of the Coimbatore District Police, after 25 job-seekers deceived by them lodged a complaint at the Crime branch of the Superintendent's office, here.
Vanathi Surender (54) and her son Rajiv (34) from Bangalore, Karnataka were operating a placement agency in Vadavalli, Coimbatore. The duo were helped by Thangaraj from Namakkal district, who acted as an intermediary between them and the applicants.
Lured by the agency's attractive advertisements promising high-paid jobs in foreign countries, many job seekers from the city and neighbouring districts enrolled themselves by paying hefty amounts between Rs.1 to 1.5 lakhs. However, none received any job offer letters, thereafter.
Meanwhile, Professor Binu Mol, one of the job seeker filed a complaint at the District Superintendent's office in 2017 alleging of the fradulent company and the owners. Following her complaint, 25 other victims too filed similar complaints in the same year on the placement company for eloping with their money.
Following the complaints, the police were on the look out for the three accused who went absconding. In this scenario, the police of STF on Tuesday nabbed Vanathi Surender, Rajiv in Bangalore and Thangaraj in Salem.
The police reported that the trio have allegedly swindled up to Rs. 35 lakhs. Later, all three were remanded.
