Coimbatore: The ninth edition of the International Engineering Sourcing Show (IESS) is to be held at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex in Coimbatore between March 4-6, 2020.
Coimbatore: The ninth edition of the International Engineering Sourcing Show (IESS) is to be held at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex in Coimbatore between March 4-6, 2020.
400 delegates from across 50 countries and exhibitors from all over the country will participate in the show organised by the Engineering Export Promotion Council of India. This is the first time that IESS will be held in a non-metro city. A press interaction was held with regard to to the show at a private hotel today.
Speaking to the media, Rakesh Shah, Chairman Publicity of EEPC India said, "Coimbatore was the first non-metro city chosen for the event because the city's industrial scenario is very good. Coimbatore is the textile capital, 30 percent of auto component requirements for the industry is manufactured here and 75 percent of the national production of wet grinders also comes from Coimbatore. The CODISSIA trade fair complex is one among the best in the country, so naturally EEPC chose Coimbatore as the venue for conducting the show," he added.
Rakesh Shah opined that since Coimbatore had around 1 lakh micro, small and medium industries, an Expo of this nature will benefit small players to enter the export market. "It is no more about the population. It is about the intent and industry, and Coimbatore is an ideal choice. Smaller towns and cities will be the next hubs for the industry. Tier 2 cities have equally better potential like metros," added Shah.
S Chandrasekahar, Chairman, EEPC, Coimbatore Chapter said, "Coimbatore was chosen among Pune, Noida and Navi Mumbai because of its enterprising industrial environment. MSME industries of Coimbatore will be hugely benefited. EEPC started its first non-metro chapter in May 2019 at Coimbatore because this chapter has about 700 member organisations of the total 1500 member organisations in Tamil Nadu. Coimbatore has such a huge potential for engineering export with around a lakh smaller units. Thus, IESS will bring a boost to the engineering industry in Coimbatore," he reiterated.
Over 15,000 visitors are expected to participate in the three-day event which will be held by EEPC with support from the Ministry of Commerce, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Department of MSME and Department of Heavy Industry. Institutes like the National Institute of Design, IIT (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Ropar) and IISc will participate in the event.
Suranjan Gupta, Executive Director, EEPC India and Heads of various industrial associations of Coimbatore were also present at the media briefing.
