Balasubramaniam runs a grocery shop in the housing unit located on the Tirupur-Angeripalayam road. At 1 pm on Tuesday, his wife Mani had gone to the terrace to dry out clothes. Shockingly, she was attacked by a stranger who tried to snatch her gold chain. The elderly woman screamed for help, while the stranger kept attempting to snatch her chain.
Hearing his wife scream for help, Balasubramaniam rushed to the terrace in rescue of his wife. The thief, then jumped off the terrace and was left injured.
The public in the neighbourhood rushed to the spot and caught hold of the thief. He was then tied to a pole and thrashed before they handed him over to the Anupparpalayam police station.
The elderly woman who was injured in the incident is presently been treated in the emergency care unit of a private hospital.
