The Collector apprised that strict action under the Motor Vehicles Act will be taken, if buses are found to be taking law in their hands. The release further added that with the increase in private and government buses being operated in the city, violations have become a menace.
"Recently, passengers and public have been registering complaints on a series of violations by buses. Upon inquiry, it was found that buses do not follow their routes and schedules. Private buses have additional conductors in ununiform, they stop the buses in unauthorised places instead of designated bus stops, collect extra fare, fix coloured lights, overspeed and use air horns", the Collector noted.
He reitrated that buses should focus on safety of the passengers and not speeding. "The Transport department and the Traffic police will be advised to initiate strict legal action on buses that violate the rules and pose threat to the public. Those held will be punishable under the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988", he warned.
