Winners for the Fifth edition of DJ Memorial Photography Contest (DJMPC) announced

Coimbatore: Dr. Thomas Rajan (USA) won the prize in “Wildlife” category for his photo titled “Fishing Gannets" and Valterri Mulkaheinen (Finland) won the first prize in the “Landscape” category for his photo titled “Gates of Winter" in the eighth edition of DJ Memorial Photography Contest (DJMPC) organised by Lakshmi Machine Works Limited (LMW) today at Kasthuri Sreenivasan Cultural centre.


Coimbatore: Dr. Thomas Rajan (USA) won the prize in “Wildlife” category for his photo titled “Fishing Gannets" and Valterri Mulkaheinen (Finland) won the first prize in the “Landscape” category for his photo titled “Gates of Winter" in the eighth edition of DJ Memorial Photography Contest (DJMPC) organised by Lakshmi Machine Works Limited (LMW) today at Kasthuri Sreenivasan Cultural centre.



Besides the top two prizes, another ten participants are awarded a certificate of merit for their efforts. 

DJMPC instituted by LMW in memory of its past Chairman and Managing Director, Dr D Jayavarthanavelu (DJ) is an annual international competitive event to identify, recognize and honour talent in photography. 

Speaking at the event, Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu, Chairman and Managing director, LMW said.



"The event is being held to remember and celebrate the immense passion that Dr DJ had for photography. The first edition of DJMPC was held during 2012. Over the years response to the event has increased and judging by the response that the eighth edition of DJMPC has received this year it appears that this annual event has evolved into a significant calendar event in photography".



The contest had entries under two categories namely, “Wildlife” and “Landscape”, and carried total prize money of Rs 10 lakhs. 

The jury panel consisted of Steven Yee, Singapore, Dhritiman Mukherjee, West Bengal and Anup Sah, Nainital, Uttarakhand. The contest received 6530 entries from 1402 participants from 40 countries. 



A public expo of selected contest photographs were inaugurated after the awards ceremony by Rajyalakshmi Jayavarthanavelu.



The expo will be open for public viewing until Sunday, August, 4.
