Coimbatore: Hindu religious organisations ripped posters of famous folk singers Rajalakshmi and Senthil Ganesh, in protest against them performing in the Aadi Kundam festival at Vanabadrakaliamman temple.
Coimbatore: Hindu religious organisations ripped posters of famous folk singers Rajalakshmi and Senthil Ganesh, in protest against them performing in the Aadi Kundam festival at Vanabadrakaliamman temple.
The Aadi Kundam festival is usually celebrated with fervour at the Vanabadrakaliamman temple, and the festivities are scheduled to begin early Tuesday morning. Pilgrims stand in queue from the previous night to enter the Kundam. Many pilgrims also gather to watch the festival, and music programmes are also arranged to add to the festive spirit.
This year, popular folk singer couple Rajalakshmi and Senthil Ganesh were to perform in the festival and posters announcing the same were stuck across Mettupalayam.
But some Hindu groups staged a protest and ripped the posters apart to show disapproval of the couple singing in the temple as they had earlier sung songs criticising Hindu groups and the Prime Minister.
The Hindu groups protested that the couple had communist ideologies and hence should not perform in the temple. The Coimbatore Divisional Secretary Rajkumar also warned that they would surround the stage in protest if the couple was allowed to perform.
