According to initial reports, some miscreants had set fire to overgrown thorny bushes and dry garbage heap at en empty land near RR Layout in Nava India. "Initially only mild smoke was seen emanating from the bushes, but shortly due to heavy winds the fire spread fully covering a larger area", said a resident of the area.

As the efforts of the people to douse the fire went in vain, they alerted the fire station. The firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
The locals also opined that miscreants setting fire in corporations dustbins and dry bushes is turning to be a menace.
Last year, in a similar incident at Udayampalayam, a major fire broke out in an empty land with overgrown shrubs and garbage heaps.
