Coimbatore: The department of Zoology and Nature Club of Bharathiyar University confluenced to celebrate International Tigers Day at the university campus on Monday.
Coimbatore: The Department of Zoology and the Nature Club of Bharathiyar University jointly celebrated International Tigers Day at the University campus on Monday.
The event included a talk on ‘Truth about Tigers’ by I Anwardeen, the Director of Tamil Nadu Forest Academy, a talk by K. Kalidasan, the President of Osai and screening of the documentary ‘Tiger in Peril.’ documentary.

Speaking at the event, Anwardeen said that the population of tigers had declined drastically over the years and called for collective measures from the Government and NGOs. Explaining the efforts taken by the Government in the conservation of tigers, Anwardeen said that the population can be stabilised if strict measures are taken.
He also explained about the behaviour and anatomy of tigers.

Kalidas highlighted the importance of people participation in tiger conservation. “It is not one man’s duty but the responsibility of each citizen,” he said. The event also saw the inauguration of the Nature Club for the academic year 2019-2010.
M Ramesh, the Professor from the Department of Zoology, C Gunasekaran, the Faculty Advisor of Nature Club and K Murugan, the Head of the Department of Zoology participated in the event. Prizes were also distributed to the winners of various competitions which were held on behalf of the International Tiger Day celebrations.
