Coimbatore: With conservation activities on at full swing in the city's Singanallur Lake, the inspection of city police to find possible Ganesh idol immersion spots in the lake has irked activists.

A team of police officials led by two Assistant Commissioners inspected the lake on Monday morning.
The idea of police entering the lake to scout spots int he lake for idol immersion purposes has not gone down well with activists since the District administration along with the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation had decided not to allow idol immersions at the lake considering the rich biodiversity of the lake.
The police had also consented for the request when the parties involved met senior officials at the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner’s office, last year. However, it seems like the police have bypassed the discussions and gone ahead with the inspection of the lake for this year’s Ganesh Chathurthi festival which is just around the corner.
It maybe noted that the lake has been announced as a Biodiversity Conservation Zone by the State Government and hosts more than 720 species of flora and fauna.
