Coimbatore: Marking World Tiger Day, students of two arts and science colleges in Coimbatore along with foresters and NGO members marched to create awareness about the big cat here today.
Coimbatore: Marking World Tiger Day, students from Rathinam College of Arts and Science and Dr. SNS Rajalakshmi College of Arts and Science rallied from the District Forest Office and marched 2 kms along the Bharathy Park with foresters and members of an NGO to create awareness on conservation of tigers.
The rally which was flagged off from the District Forest Office covered Bharathy Park Road, Lawley Road Junction and Cowley Brown Road before heading back to the DFO office in the Tamil Nadu Forest Academy Campus. Before the start of the rally, the students took an oath to protect tiger habitats and vowed to not litter inside forested landscape. They also took an oath to spread awareness about conserving the Tiger, the national animal.
Students carried placards with slogans that stressed on the importance of protecting tigers and other wild animals. The rally was flagged off by Senthil Kumar, Assistant Conservator of Forests and was organised by the Wildlife and Nature Conservation Trust (WNCT).
M Sirajdeen, the Coordinator of WNCT Coimbatore and Jeno Wilson Coordinator of WNCT of Mettupalayam, students, staff and foresters participated in the rally.
