Mohammed Bashir (44), a resident of Vazhapuzha, Palakkad was travelling in the car with a few of the contract workers from North India, working in his construction company. They were proceeding to Kanyakumari on a pleasure trip.
Around 5 am in the morning and when the car was nearing the Vellalore junction, an oncoming truck rammed against the car, in the impact of which all the five died. While two died on the spot, others succumbed on the way to the hospital.
The name of the all the five deceased are given as Mohammed Bashir (44) who was at the wheel, and Hiralal Sikari (28), Gouranga Pandit (30), Lalita Mondal (31), Mithun Pandit (27), all of them contract workers from West Bengal, who were the at the service of Mohammed Bashir.
Sulur police have registered a case and are investigating.
Due to the accident that took place in early morning hours, the oncoming traffic was for more than an hour.
