Coimbatore : Special poojas were offered to Vanabhadrakali Amman to propitiate the rain Gods and to bring the bountiful rains to Mettupalayam and surrounding areas.
A special statue of Utsavam Amman was placed in the front hall of the temple. Then the Amman was bathed in the holy waters which was taken from the River Bhavani, followed by special rituals to the Goddess.

Vedic mantras were chanted for bountiful rains. Following which, Kumaraguru Maruthachala Adigalar led the special Tamil custom of “laksharchana” performed by the Sivachariars.
Lots of devotees took part in the special poojas.

It may be noted that deficient south-west monsoon rains led to drought conditions prevailing in Mettupalayam and surrounding areas like Sirumugai, Karamadai and other places.
Even though the monsoon rains has set in Kerala, the Mettupalayam area has only experienced meagre rainfall, and torrential rains were only minimal.
