Coimbatore : With the Coimbatore Corporation slipping 40th place in the Swachh Survekshan ranking released early this year from the 16th position it held earlier the City Corporation is augmenting measure to emerge again at the top of the table.
Coimbatore : With the Coimbatore Corporation slipping 40th place in the Swachh Survekshan ranking released early this year from the 16th position it held earlier the City Corporation is augmenting measure to emerge again at the top of the table.
To achieve this end of improving the overall ranking and bring it within the top 10 in the country, CCMC Commissioner Sravan Kumar Jatavath had appealed to the members of the public to help the Corporation to regain its glory.
In a Swachh Bharat Mission meeting held here, CCMC commissioner interacted with the Swachh Ambassadors and discussed the various measures to help the city augment measures which would help improve the ranking.
"Corporation is carrying out every possible measure to keep the city clean by streamlining the garbage disposal mechanism. Door-to-door collection of segregated waste is being carried out by our sanitary workers and nearly 1,000 metric tonne waste is being processed at the Vellalore dump yard. The mass clean up drives at major roads during the night hours is another step in this direction. CCMC is working towards turning Coimbatore into a bin-less city and public help is more important in achieving this,” Sravan Kumar said.
In the 2017-18 Swachh Survekshan ranking, CCMC had slipped to 40th place. According to a senior CCMC official, "The civic body is working hard to improve its ranking in the next cycle and emerge at the top of the table”
“The ranking would improve if we can end to open defecation, keep our drains from clogging and stop the usage of banned plastic products totally. We should also focus more on the construction of rainwater harvesting (RWH) structures in all buildings both residential and commercial, composting of wet waste and segregation of waste.” He said.
“Four to five Swachh Bharat ambassadors will be appointed in each ward who will work towards awareness creation among the residents. The ambassadors will create awareness about the garbage-free city. They would work along with the corporation officials,” he added.
"All these measures by the City Corporation will help improve the City's ranking" opined the official, who added "the city residents should cooperate with the civic body to achieve the pride of place in the next cycle of Swachh Survekshan ranking."
