Coimbatore: A stakeholder meeting was organised by the City Corporation today to discuss laying of new pipelines for the 24x7 uninterrupted drinking water supply. RS Puram was taken as a pilot area-Di system where the pipeline has been laid up to 25 km.

City Corporation today held a meeting with various officials from City Traffic Police, electricity board, BSNL, CCMC engineers and SUEZ.

The meeting was held to discuss ways to ease the issues faced during laying pipelines for the 24x7 project.

A senior Corporation official said, "We have been digging roads in RS Puram to lay new pipelines. While working we might come across some other pipelines or cables laid by BSNL or the electricity department. To avoid damage and to attend to issues arising during digging co ordination between all the departments is important. This meeting would bring all the officials to discuss ways to hasten the works.“

The project map has been handed over to all the representatives who attended the meeting. It was told that the SUEZ officials would coordinate with the representatives while laying pipelines in the project area.

According to the officials, the project area for 24x7 drinking water project covers 105 sq km covering 60 wards (old). The construction period is between 2019-23 and so far the pipeline has been laid across 1,820 km in the city.
