But amid the cheers and jubilation, the PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore silently watched all the developments and felt proud of the achievements gained by the scientist of India Space Research Organisation.
Coimbatore: When Chandrayaan 2 was launched from the launch pad in Satish Dhawan Space Centre for the lunar mission, it was a proud moment for the country. But amid the cheers and jubilation, the PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore silently watched all the developments and felt proud of the achievements gained by the scientist of India Space Research Organisation.
For they have every right to feel proud for this achievement, as six of the scientist, who played a pivotal role in making the mission a success are alumni of this college. The accomplishment of the mission was not just an achievement of the scientists, but it was a dream come true for an institute, which was established several years back with the motto to produce engineers and scientist capable in every sphere.
The mission turned into a success with the contribution of alumni T Mookiah, Director, IPRC, Mahendragiri, who did his Mechanical Engineering in 1982, Dr B Vatsala, Systems Reliability, VSSC Trivandrum, who did her Electronic Communication and Engineering in 1982, Ponginan, Range Operations, Director, SDSC, Shar, a student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 1983, Baskaran, Group Head, ISRO Inertial Systems Unit, who did his bachelor’s degree in Electronic and Communication Engineering in 1982 and Sudarson, Production Deputy General Manager, IPRC, who also completed his bachelor’s degree in Engineering in 1982 and Ramalakshmi, Communication Systems Group, UR Rao Satellite Centre, Bangalore, a student 1987 Electronic Communication and Engineering batch..
Before them, Mylswamy Annadurai, Vice President, Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, also an alumnus, who completed his master’s degree in Engineering in 1982, made the country and college proud by successfully launching the first Chandrayaan mission.
Speaking to Simplicity, Dr Vatsala, in charge of System reliability, which ensured the quality and reliability of every component of the launch vehicle, said that it’s a great moment for all of us and the credit goes to the team, who worked tirelessly behind it.
To a question that most of the alumnus in the mission were from 82 and 83 batch, she quipped that it could be because most of them were meritorious and earned their seats in the college. She further acknowledged the role of college in moulding and training the students in the right way, besides being very good at academic.
“Becoming part of ISRO was a prestigious thing and many of them applied in those days. Since I hail from Thiruvananthapuram, hearing about the organisation and seeing the rocket launch inspired me a lot,” she said.
L Gopalakrishnan, Managing Trustee, PSG Institution, congratulated all the scientist, especially the college alumni for elevating the prestige of entire nation.
“The dedication our proud alumni in Chandrayan 2 and the intellect developed by them is incomparable. This remarkable achievement is a reassuring encouragement to our students at PSG to follow the path of discipline, innovation and aspiration which has been laid in our institutions so firmly for several decades” he added.
