Coimbatore : The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Balaji Saravanan acknowledged and lauded the honesty of auto drivers from the Manikoondu area in Town Hall for handing over the wallet and mobile phone of a tippler. The auto drivers had taken the wallet and mobile phone for safe keeping when the man was found to be in an inebriated state.
The Town Hall area in Coimbatore city is a hub for various administrative and business activities, and is thronged by people throughout the day. Since it is a busy marketplace too, pickpockets are known to frequent the area. Meanwhile, two days ago, a few auto drivers of the Manikoondu auto stand noticed a few pickpockets attempting to rob a tippler who was lying in an inebriated state. The auto drivers immediately took away the wallet and mobile phone from the man.
Since no one had claimed the wallet and mobile even after two days, the auto drivers went to the Commissioner's Office in Coimbatore and handed over the mobile phone and wallet to the Deputy Commissioner. The police checked the wallet and found Rs.4,417 in it. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Balaji Saravanan appreciated the honesty of the auto drivers for not wishing to keep the money that belonged to someone else, in spite of their economical conditions. The AIADMK Union District Secretary, Anshar Basha was also present.
