With wildlife movement on the rise in Nilgiris, attacks on labourers and passers-by near tea estates by bisons or elephants are becoming more frequent. Baby (35), a resident of Milidane near Kotagiri who is a wage worker was attacked by a bison and severely wounded on her hands and stomach when she was collecting tea leaves.

In spite of being rushed to the hospital in a 108 ambulance, Baby succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital. Her body has been sent to the Government Hospital for autopsy. Villagers accused the Forest Department of not taking adequate measures to protect residents from wildlife attacks even after repeatedly informing them about consistent wildlife movements in their areas.
