Coimbatore: Protesting against the Draft National Education Policy and demanding closure of the hydrocarbon projects, over 20 students of Dr. Ambedkar Law College staged a protest in front of their college.
Coimbatore: Protesting against the Draft National Education Policy and demanding closure of the hydrocarbon projects, over 20 students of Dr. Ambedkar Law College staged a protest in front of their college.
"Many of the points included in the Draft National Education Policy would create a serious problem in the education system and accepting it will have serious consequences," stated Ranjani Kannamma, a law student who participated in the protest. She said that the policy is looking to conduct board examinations for students of Classes 3, 5 and 8. "There are chances that many would fail the exams and the number of students dropping out of schools may increase. This may also increase child labour," she alleged.
"Likewise, the policy also mentions that non-performing colleges should be converted into libraries. All this is unheard of and will have serious repercussions. Even the hydrocarbon projects will have a huge effect on the environment. The effect, including the air and water pollution will be felt in the entire 25,000 sq. km area near the projects," opined Ranjani Kannamma.
