Acute water scarcity has hit Nilgiris districts as the monsoon precipitation was deficient. Coonoor is one of the worst affected towns in Nilgiris where the water supply system has gone for a toss.
The water storage in Ralliah dam has hit the rock bottom at 10ft .Hence the civic body has been struggling to supply water to many wards in Coonoor.
Several areas have been affected by lack of water supply. The protesters who surrounded the municipal officials later dispersed following assurance given by the official for streamlining water supply.
