Coimbatore : Under the Area-based Development of Smart city Project being implemented in the city, four more wards are being added to the existing 14 wards.
Corporation wards 72, 86, 95 and 99 will be brought under the scope of Smart city Project for which the Smart city Board has given the formal approval recently.
Smart city project is executed on the basis of Area-based development and major projects were carried on these 14 wards covering 16.39 sq.km area.
Smart city funds would be utilized to implement programmes and urban development schemes in these four wards which constitute a total area of 12 sq.km.
In the Smart city board meeting, held at Chennai yesterday, Corporation Commissioner J.Shravan Kumar, who is also the Managing Director of Coimbatore Smart City Limited presented a proposal to add four new wards under ABD and the board gave its approval for the same.
With this approval, Vellalore Dump yard and Ukkadam Sewage Treatment plant will be brought under the scope of Smart city developmental projects.
Projects which got ratified include a modern Hockey Stadium at a cost of 19.5 crores, new equipment worth 2.88 crores, Pumping house and facilities to transport treated water from Ukkadam STP to Vellalore at a cost of 2.55 crores.
Compound walls, roads and LED lights and implementation of 3.6 MW Ukkadam Solar power plant at a cost of 4.81 crores also would be taken up in the new ward which comes under the purview of Smart City Project.
