Coimbatore: The first ever vascular surgery was successfully performed at the Coimbatore Medical college hospital by a team of surgeons according to Dean of CMCH Asokan.

While addressing the press Dr Asokan said Palanisamy (75) of Nambiyar, Erode district had been admitted in a critical condition with swollen Arterial vein ten days ago.
“The arterial vein that was supposed to be 1.5 cm in diameter was 10 times swollen and was 15 cm in diameter” Dr Asokan noted.
Hence emergency surgery was arranged and a team of doctors successfully completed the surgery on Monday
“The surgery which costs about Rs, 10 lakhs at a private hospital has been carried out free under Tamilnadu Government Medical insurance scheme” Dr Asokan noted.
“Life-saving treatment and surgery facilities are now being made available free of cost at CMCH itself for the benefit of people of the city and the region” Dr.Asokan further said.
