MP P.R Natarajan, in his statement, strongly condemned the Centre's stand that environment clearance is not required for setting up of High tension power towers, which are cutting through the cultivable lands in the eight districts of the west zone of Tamilnadu.
Alleging that the Centre's decision amounted to crushing the farmers' livelihood measures, Natarajan said that the farmers, who have been agitated by this stand of the Centre would launch a massive agitation on July 22- 23 at Jantar Mantar, Delhi to grab the attention of the Central Government.
In the meanwhile, Natarajan asked the Centre not to change the order that required environment clearance for setting up of High tension towers.
The MP said that his party is of the view that tariffs should be fixed for the existing High Tension power towers and infrastructure to transport electricity using underground cable lines for the future usage augmented.
"The current decision of the Centre is amounting to deceiving the farmers of Tamilnadu," the Coimbatore MP said
"The next step will be taken after due consultations with other Tamil Nadu MPs. We will meet the Union Ministers in Delhi to urge them to withdraw this anti-farmer policy decision," said MP P.R Natarajan.
