The President of the Federation of Tamil Nadu Fireworks Dealers, Raja Chandrashekaran addressed the media saying, "In spite of the firework dealers' decision to not sell Chinese fireworks, some vendors due to the Governement's and Court's strict objections actually end up getting tricked into purchasing Chinese fireworks."
Raja Chandrashekaran questioned the Government's decision of allowing the sale of crackers only two to three days prior to Diwali and requested the Government to permit shops that have been selling fireworks in the same place for over five years to sell at least a month before Diwali. He also requested the Government to implement a single-window system in obtaining a license for the sale of fireworks since five sectors have to be approached to obtain the permit to sell them.
"NASA's report on how smoke caused due to fireworks actually disappears into the air within six hours stopped US and China from imposing restrictions on fireworks but India is limiting the time for lighting of fireworks which by itself is against our culture. We would also like to be included in the hearing of a case that is already being appealed in the Supreme Court, seeking permission to ease these regulations," he added.
