Coimbatore: As a part of the ongoing Coimbatore Book Festival (CBF), an essay competition was held in CODISSIA in which more than 3600 essays were submitted by school students across the district.
Coimbatore: As a part of the ongoing Coimbatore Book Festival (CBF), an essay competition was held in CODISSIA in which more than 3600 essays were submitted by school students across the district.
The competition was organized jointly by all the Rotary clubs in Coimbatore and CODISSIA in which students from 8th to 11 std took part. There were more than 3600 essays that were received on the topic Gandhi’s ideology and “The book that inspired me”.
Addressing the students at the prize distribution function, Writer Vannanilavan said, he was pleased to know that so many children had participated in the essay writing competition. "Those who develop reading habit at a young age will never be losers in life. The joint effort by the rotary clubs and CODISSIA needs to be appreciated", he said.
Rotary Governor, Madhav Chandran in his speech, said that "India is a country for the youth. At times, we underestimate the younger generation. During the Kerala floods, I know that the youth acted with so much responsibility and handled the crisis. Inculcating reading habit in them will teach them values and moral principles. Today's students grab opportunities to showcase their talent. It gives me immense pleasure to know that girl students have bagged the first five prize in the essay writing competition held today."
He also added that "Our children are always observing us in the way we talk, we behave and our body language. We need to become role models for them. I sincerely wish all the students who participated in this competition with a lot of enthusiasm. Make use of all the opportunities that life offers and display your potential to the fullest. Become great leaders and serve the society in which you live in. “Responsible India “- a project by the rotary is taking up several societal issues and working on them."
The prize winners were S. Vennila of Government School, Nambiyur (First Prize), R. Aishwarya of Avila Convent (Second Prize), Sanjan of SES Matriculation school (Third Prize) .K. Kanishka Chellammal, Vidhyashram school (Fourth Prize), R. Harshitha, of CMS Vidhya Mandir school were the prizes winners. They were given certificates of recognition and prize money of 5,000, 4000, 3000, 2000 and 1000 each. Apart from this, 1000 essays was chosen for consolation prizes, the prize winners were provided gift vouchers worth Rs.200 that could be used to buy books at the festival.
The Chairman of the CBF, Vijay Anand, Rotary District Governor, M. Murugan, School library project coordinator, Mohammed Irfan, CRI Pumps, Chairman Velumani and Writer Selventhiran participated in the function and congratulated the prize winners.
