Water level in the Pillur dam rises by 4 feet overnight

Coimbatore: With heavy rain lashing the catchment areas on Friday and Saturday night, Pillur dam is nearing its full storage capacity. Overnight, the water level in the dam has rose by 4 feet. So far, 3000 cubic feet of water is being released and at present, the water flow is measured at 700 cubic feet.

Coimbatore: With heavy rain lashing the catchment areas on Friday and Saturday night, Pillur dam is nearing its full storage capacity. Overnight, the water level in the dam has rose by 4 feet. So far, 3000 cubic feet of water is being released and at present, the water flow is measured at 700 cubic feet. 

As of today morning, the water level of Pillur dam rose from 87 feet to 91.50 feet against the full reservoir capacity of 100 feet. When it touches 98ft, the shutters will be opened. 



As the water supply to Kundah, Barli and other dams in the Nilgiris district is on the rise, the excess water released from the dams have reached Pillur dam. 

The water inflow to Bhavani river in Mettupalayam has increased. If the dam overflows, a flood alert will be issued to the people living along the Bhavani river, say PWD officials. 



With the onset of south-west monsoon in Kerala, the catchment ares in the western ghats of the region has been receiving copious rainfall for the past week. The water levels across all dams in the district - Upper Bhavani, Avalanche, Kundah, Pillur, Aliyar and Siruvani has increased considerably, leaving the farmers delighted.
