The work that was pending for more than two years, finally commenced on Saturday, bringing about huge cheer to the villagers.
More than 80 tribal families that live in the hamlet were fighting a tough battle against poor electricity supply that was pushing their lives down.
The hamlet situated more than 25 kms away from the city has been receiving electricity through a transformer located at Kondanur Pudhur which takes electricity to two hamlets including Panappalli and Kandivazhi.
Though there were not many issues with Kandivazhi regarding electricity supply, which hosts only 30 families, the power lines leading to Panappalli were creating frequent trouble for the villagers.
The hamlet was offered only single phase electricity which often turned off. The villagers claimed that they were not able to charge their mobile phones with the low power supplied through the single phase.
They further complained that school going children in the village were not able to study properly because of frequent power cuts and low voltage.
They also raised a complaint with officials and a sanction order arrived to set up a transformer exclusively for the village. However, despite arriving three years ago, when the local body was functioning, the work had not commenced. Materials had already arrived at the spot two years ago, yet the work was delayed.
Assistant Engineer of Chinnathadagam M. Devarajan had told Simplicity earlier that the work was delayed in order to set up a new supply to Dhumanur and Chembukkarai, which had no electricity since then.
On Saturday, work began to set up the transformer and according to officials it would end within few weeks.
