Coimbatore : The crimes against women and girl children have been on the rise in the city. The sexual assualt and murder of a girl in Thudiyalur had shocked the entire nation earlier. Following this a special department for the safety of women and children have been in place and yet there has been no decrease in the number of crimes.
Coimbatore: In recent times, the crimes against women and girl children have been on the rise in the city. The sexual assault and murder of a girl in Thudiyalur sent shock waves to the entire state in April.
Following the earlier case, now the sexual harassment of a 4-year old child in Thudiyalur on June 28th has caused a huge uproar.
A couple from Anna colony in Thudiyalur have a 4 year old girl child. The child was sexually harassed by Selvaraj (45) from Thudiyalur on June 28. The relative who had spotted him with the child shouted in protest which made Selvaraj go absconding from the place.
The parents did not report the incident immediately to the police and instead filed a complaint on July 5th at the All women's police station in Thudiyalur. The police who were suspicious about the delayed complaint sought the help of social activists.
Upon investigation by the social activists, it was confirmed that Selvaraj had sexually harassed the child. Based on the reports by the social activists Police arrested Selvaraj and filed a case under POCSO act and jailed him in the Central Prison.
