The Nilgiris : The farmers from Manjoor, Kedhai and Mulli in the Nilgiris have expressed a huge sigh of relief, as the elephant herd which had camped for over a week have moved on.

Over a week, an elephant herd has been reported to have camped in the vegetable farmlands of Manjoor and adjoining areas. The farmers of this region cultivate Chow Chow in acres of land.

"While the vegetables ready for harvest, the elephant herd has been destroying the farmlands and damaging the vegetables. The forest officials have requested to us to leave the herd undisturbed. Hence, we haven't gone to the fields for work for a week", lamented a tribal from Manjoor.

Bidding good bye to the farmers, the elephant herd left the farmland today, after a week-long feast. The farmers have requested the forest officials to chase the wild animals into deep forests rather than asking them to be patient.
