Coimbatore : Condemning against the arrest of Congress leader Priyanka Gandh, the Congress party men staged a protest infront South Taluk office in the city. Tamil Nadu Congress Executive Secretary Mayura Jayakumar led the protest. Over 60 Congress cadres participated and raised slogans against the Central leadership.

While addressing the press Mayura said,it is highly condemnable to arrest a person who lent her support for the victims and also accused the Centre for its dictatorial attitude.. She warned that protests will be staged if the such incidents recur. Former ML AKandasamy, Venus Mani and various others participated in the protest.
It may be recalled that over a land dispute between Gujjar and Gond tribes over a 36 acre of land in Umba village near Sonapatra in Uttar Pradesh, the village leader Yoga Dutt along with 200 of his supporters had attacked the tribes, which resuted in death of 10 tribes in gun fire and many were left injured in the incident..
While the Congress Party condemned this incident strongly, its UP East Zone General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi staged a dharna in the streets. Police arrested Priyanka Gandhi on this account and jailed her, which prompted nation wide protests by Congressmen against her arrest.
