Tirupur : Justice Jayanthi of Tirupur Mahila Court on Friday sentenced a lawyer with life time imprisonment for having tortured his wife for dowry and ultimately forced her to commit suicide.

Yamuna Devi from Nathakadaiyur in Tirupur married Saravana Rajkumar from Coimbatore, a lawyer, on March 4, 2012. Then, the girl's family had given 75 sovereigns of gold and a car as dowry.
Shortly, after marriage Saravana Rajkumar continued to torture Yamuna Devi to get more dowry from her parents. Unable to withstand his torture, Yamuna Devi hanged herself at her home on June 19, 2013.
Following her unnatural death, the Kangeyam police registered a case and a RDO investigation was ordered.

As the investigations revealed how Saravana Rajkumar's harrasments led to the suicide, he was arrested and the case was ongoing at Tirupur Mahila Court.
On Friday, the Justice awarded life term to the husband and three others linked to the case were released.
