As many as three incidents have been reported in the past week alone, from various parts of the city in which sandalwood trees were targeted and axed by the smugglers.
While three sandalwood trees were cut and smuggled from Murugan Spinning Mill complex in Saibaba colony, in yet another incident Police on night patrol, found an abandoned car with cut sandalwood logs near Vadavalli.
The Police later found out that the smugglers who cut the trees from Thadagam road had abandoned it, after spotting police on night rounds.
Two aborted attempts were also made near Ramnagar and Racecourse road, and the smugglers took to their heels after they spotted policemen or vigilant residents when they were about to cut to smuggle the trees.
Kattur and Racecourse police are investigating the incidents.
