Coimbatore: A female elephant aged around 18 was found dead near the Chembukkarai tribal settlement on the border of neighbouring district of Kerala on Friday morning.
The carcass was spotted by locals at Kodunkarai Pallam in Yanai Maduvu, a few kilo meters away from Chembukkarai.

According to sources, the elephant had died a few days ago and has not been spotted, so far by the forest department. Presently, attempts are being made to take the veterinary team to the spot.
Since there is no possible route from Chembukkarai to reach the spot, the forest officials have planned to reach via Moolagangal, a bordering village close to Kerala.

Officials have said that the reason for death can be ascertained only after conducting a post mortem.
