Coimbatore : Police are on the lookout for the persons who duped a jeweller from Kerala and extorted Rs.13 lakhs from him after impersonating themselves as vigilance officials.
Coimbatore : Police are on the lookout for the persons who duped a jeweller from Kerala and extorted Rs.13 lakhs from him after impersonating themselves as vigilance officials.
According to police, Naushad, a jeweller of Thalasseri in Kerala had accompanied his friend Vignesh to procure gold at a subsidized rate from the city.
When the duo reached Sivananda colony, they were asked to contact the occupants of an Innova car at Sivananda colony by one person named Siva, the middleman who facilitated the deal.
When the duo approached the occupants of the car, the persons who impersonated as vigilance officials threatened and got the cash from Naushad. Later, they forcibly evicted the duo from the car and escaped from the spot.

Realizing that they were cheated by the group, the duo made a formal complaint at Rathinapuri police station.
Police have filed a case and are on the lookout for the gang who cheated and decamped with the money.
Four police teams have been formed to nab the gang. The police are scrutinising the CCTV footages obtained from the crime spot.
