Coimbatore: As South America was enthralled by the view of the total solar eclipse on July 2nd, 2019, two weeks later the moon has moved nearly half way around the Earth to its full moon phase. And as moon moved, it entered the shadow cast by the Earth on July 17th in the early morning hours.
Coimbatore: As South America was enthralled by the view of the total solar eclipse on July 2nd, 2019, two weeks later the moon has moved nearly half way around the Earth to its full moon phase. And as moon moved, it entered the shadow cast by the Earth on July 17th in the early morning hours.
It was a partial lunar eclipse, and a little more than half of the moon was covered by umbral shadow cast by Earth. The entire duration of the eclipse, which began by 1.30 AM, was visible from Coimbatore, and a live observation was arranged by Mango Astronomy Club. The weather was very bad for observations right from the beginning, but eclipse was visible once in a while as the clouds kept moving in the foreground. At around 4.00 AM the sky had cleared up quite well offering a real good view of the eclipse. The eclipse ended by around 4.30 AM.
