Making a formal announcement to this effect, under 110 rule of the Tamil Nadu Assembly, the Chief Minister announced bifurcation of existing two districts and creating the new ones for purposes of administrative convenience.
“Two IAS officers would be appointed to administer the two new districts coming into existence” the Chief Minister said
With this announcement, the total number of revenue districts in TN would go up to 35.
The newly formed Tenkasi district would include Tenkasi, Sivagiri, Ambasamudram, Senkottai and Kadayanallur taluks.
“The aspirations of the people of Kumbakonam to carve it out as a separate district would be addressed soon” said Revenue Minister, Udayakumar.
