AICTE to involve engineering students in a campaign for Jal Shakti Abhiyan

New Delhi: Prof Anil D.Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of All India Council For Technical Education (AICTE) proposed to the Directors, Principals of AICTE approved Institutions to mass mobilize engineering students from local engineering colleges and involve them in the campaign for Jal Shakti Abhiyan, a Govt of India initiative.

New Delhi: Prof Anil D.Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of All India Council For Technical Education (AICTE) proposed to the Directors, Principals of AICTE approved Institutions to mass mobilize engineering students from local engineering colleges and involve them in the campaign for Jal Shakti Abhiyan, a Govt of India initiative. 

The campaign is said to run through citizen participation during the monsoon season in two phases. The first phase is from July 1 to September 15, 2019. And, the second phase starts from October 1 to November 30, 2019 in the states identified with water crisis. 

The major intervention areas under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan are water conservation, rainwater harvesting, renovation of water bodies/tanks, borewell recharge structure, watershed development and intensive afforestation. 

The concerned Ministry has given AICTE a task for mass mobilization of engineering students from local engineering colleges and involve them in the campaign. The students participating in the campaign are to be nominated and mapped for each block level team through the District Collector/ District Magistrate of the concerned district. 

In his letter, AICTE Chairman has stated that a team of officers in the rank of Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary up to 250 officers from the central government would visit and work with the district administration in 1592 water-stressed blocks in 256 districts, and the involvement of students in this challenging activity can be construed as social internship.
