Coimbatore : Tamil Nadu assembly Deputy Speaker Pollachi Jayaraman stressed on constructing check dams in Valparai, Pollachi, Udumalapetai and Kinathukadavu.
Coimbatore : Tamil Nadu assembly Deputy Speaker Pollachi Jayaraman stressed on constructing check dams in Valparai, Pollachi, Udumalapetai and Kinathukadavu.
During the debate in the assembly he said that in Valparai, Pollachi, Udumalapetai and Kinathukadavu constituencies, the rainwater flows west in a high and low path. Varaiyaaru, Upparu in Valparai, Gothaiyaaru, Kulli Chettipalayam , Sellampalayam river in Pollachi, Varattaru, Palaaru in Kinatthukadavu are the main water sources for these places.
He pointed that Pulipaarai dam was constructed during the time of MGR and later discontinued. "Check dams should be constructed in Pappathi pallam, Kolatthu pallam, Thunakadavu Pallam, Pungankadavu pallam, Paavarai pallam, Vagaraiyaaru pallam, Mayilampaarai pallam to save rainwater and stop it from flowing into Kerala and into the Arabian sea", the Deputy Speaker said.
"Last year, 50 GVC rain water was wasted into the Arabian sea from the Parambikulam, Aliyar and Solaiyar dams. Hence, it is pivotal to build check dams in the all the west flowing rivers to ensure there is no wastage of rain water", he said.
He thanked CM Edappadi Palanisamy on behalf of all the farmers in the 4 lakh acres of farmland for forming a team to accomplish the pending Anamalaiyaaru project in the Parambikulam - Nallaru project.
He said CM has approved building a memorial for VK Palanisamy Gounder who was instrumental in making the Parambikulam Aliyar project happen and he said an agreement needs to be made with the Kerala government for implementing Anamalaiyaaru-Nallaru project. He further proposed that the memorial should be created at the Vettaikaaranpudur-Parambikulam Aliyar project's Executive Engineer office.
He said officials have advised that by building check dams in Parambikulam dam 2 GVC water can be saved and can released to Kerala, whenever a need arises. Likewise, he requested to build small check dams in the perennial river Manakadavu to Aliyar dam and help the Kongu region farmers to flourish.
