Led by Police inspector Jayakumar the policemen created awareness among motorists about safety protocols such as wearing seat belt, helmet and abiding traffic rules.
Sweets were distributed to road users who wore helmets and seat belts.
The traffic police created awareness to the tourist visiting the Nilgiris on the various ghat sections of the district which are known for steep gradients. And, tackling these stretches have been a challenge for the tourists who visit the hill stations including Ooty and Coonoor all around the year. Especially, road stretches such as Kallati ghat section. The tourists were cautioned to use the Coonoor-Mettupalayam, Kothagiri- Ooty roads which are also known for steep hairpin bends and traversing these stretches needs utmost caution on the part of tourist vehicles.
“The efforts of the district police who have launched awareness campaigns and erected signages and boards have been of utmost use to visiting tourists and helped minimize road accidents in the past year” opine the locals.
