Citing that the regional meet is of utmost importance and would set the future course of education system in the state, K Ramakrishnan of Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam, KMDK leader E R Easwaran, students and members of Parents Teachers Association, strongly protested against the meeting attended by few selected teachers, students, retired headmasters, and school representatives.
K.Ramakrishnan accused the education department of conducting the meet without any proper intimation to various stakeholders, whose participation is of immense importance before drafting or approval of suggestions, which will be sent to the Centre.
"Moreover the “secretive” meeting is being conducted at a private institute. No information was passed through the media or other channels for larger participation of representatives from all sectors. Only a few selective people, in favour of the draft already prepared, were called for a meeting", he accused.
KMDK leader E R Easwaran, said that the meeting was not officially announced and conducted in such privacy raises several questions against the state government’s effort in implementing the new education policy draft.
"This meeting could have been conducted by involving all the parents, teachers, students and other people. "Everyone should have their say with regard to the draft policy. But it was conducted without any intimation and was an effort to approve the draft policy, without knowing the views of the actual stakeholder", he opined.
“We strongly condemn such effort and will not allow any such meeting, which is organized without informing true stakeholders,” he added.
V. Devendran, District president, Parents Teachers Association, said that they would take the signature of parents and students teachers from all the schools in the district to raise their protest. He accused that such meeting is being conducted with the arrangement of the local Minister to pass the draft.
He said people have several objections against the draft policy, however, there is a scrupulous effort to pass the controversial new education policy. This will be strongly protested, he noted.
