Coimbatore : Condemning against the covert nature of a ‘Public hearing’ on the New Education Policy which was held at PSG College of Technology as a mere ‘eye wash’ as no advertisement was placed in the media encouraging the participation of the general public, educators from nine districts, the cadres of Thanthi Periyar Kazhagam barged into the venue and demanded to conduct the hearing as per the procedure.
They demanded that the public hearing be cancelled and a new date announced for it. The TPDK cadres threatened to stage agitation if the sentiments of the people are not respected.

Alleging that no proper procedure was followed in the conduction of the public hearing which witnessed no participation of public but only a handful of officials and college teachers Ramakrishnan, President of Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam who led the protesters urged the participants to respect the sentiments of the people and conduct the meeting in the real spirit.

“Even though Ramakrishnan argued the case, the teachers sat aa mute spectators which brought out the real nature of a parody of a public hearing” said the city denizens who have shared the videos in the social media, which went viral over time.
Later TPDK cadres who have been asked to move out the venue staged a demonstration infront of the college and raised slogans.
Speaking to the media, Ramakrishnan said that the public hearing is being conducted without advertising it in the media and radio, to enable participation of the public to air their views.

The meeting is an eye wash and only officials and teachers who play second fiddle to the government are invited to the public hearing which is condemnable. We have expressed our view to conduct the meeting again after properly advertising about it to seek the opinions of the general public about the new educational policy, which has been drafted by the Central government already.

“It is imperative, that all stake holders including CEOs, DEOs, teachers, students, educational NGOs and members of the public from nine district of the western region, take part in the regional level public hearing. But none of them have attended the hearing as it was not publisied” said social activists.
MDMK Youth wing secretary Easwaran also reached the venue of the publich hearing and protested against the cladestine hearing with the Joint director of school education.
