Coimbatore : Residents of Vellakinar Housing Unit Phase II (Ward 26) here on Wednesday petitioned the Corporation Commissioner to take steps to provide basic facilities in their housing unit, particularly drinking water woes, drainage and street light facilities.

"For the last six months, drinking and borewell water is being supplied only once in 10 days. Due to irregular water supply, we are forced to buy water. Hence, we have petitioned the Commissioner for redressal", said one of the residents.

The residents also complained that their area has no proper street lights due to which crime rates are high. Especially, incidents of chain snatching and theft are on the rise, they said.

The residents also lamented on the poor public transport facilities in Vellakinar housing unit area. "There is no buses available before 8:45 am, due to which the students and office goers undergo immense inconvenience", they said .

Pointing at poor drainage system in their area, the petitioners revealed that due to lack of proper drainage channel, the residents leave the drainage water into a small pit dug next their houses which poses serious hygienic problems.

They jointly alleged that all their previous complaints to the officiala had fallen in deaf ears and hence requested the Commissioner to act on their pleas, on priority.

The residents of Vellakinar left the Corporation Office with much hope, after the Commissioner assured them of redressal.
