Coimbatore: Traffic Violators can no more have a free run, as the traffic police officers in the city have been provided with a modernised e-challan devices to penalise violations.

On Wednesday, 32 e-challan devices were handed over to the city traffic police to book the violators. The data of the erring motorists will be auto uploaded in a online system, which is integrated with all Regional Transport Offices (RTOs). The vehicle numbers and the license details can be accessed instant by the traffic police.
The move comes after increasing vehicular population and death tolls due to road accidents. The motorists are generally booked for overspeeding, drunk driving, driving without helmets, not having license/,insurance/pollution certificate, cellphone use while driving, overload in goods carrier, carrying execess passengers in goods carriers and not fastening seat belts.
With this digitised method which is interconnected with the national driving database, the motorists can no more ask excuses to the traffic police to reduce the fine amount or excuse them. The traffic police in a go can access the entire database of the offender - his license details, any previous traffic violations, photograph, address and pending fines, if any etc.
The violators can either pay the e-challan amount using debit card or credit card immediately or pay by post or e-service center or Paytm.
The Coimbatore City Police are given 32 e-challan devices. Out of the 32 e-challan devices, two devices are given to the traffic Police Inspector, 15 to the traffic Police Sub Inspectors, 15 to Law and Order Police Inspectors.
Shortly, the e-challan tool will be provided to the Coimbatore Police department.
