Coimbatore : Alert members of public caught red- handed two women who have been engaged in stealing gold chains and money from unwitting passengers travelling in city buses.
According to police, Alamelu (45) and Ambika (27) of Samayapuram near Tiruchy were habitual offenders.
Recently, they had stolen 2 sovereign gold chain from a college student S. Nisha (20), a third year law college student.
The student lodged a formal complaint with Peelamedu police station in which she had stated that she lost her gold chain when she was travelling from Chinniyampalayam to Anna statue. She also hinted that two women had stolen the jewel from her when she was forced travel on the foot board of the bus due to heavy rush.
Meanwhile, the women duo were caught red- handed, today when they were trying to steal valuables from another woman in a bus.
The alert members of the public who cornered the duo detained them and informed the police who later arrived at the scene.
Nisha, the law student who also arrived at the scene also helped to identify the women duo as the prime suspects involved in the crime of stealing her gold chain.
The Police who took the women duo to the station found during the investigation that they had stolen 2 sovereign gold chain from the law student, and 7,000 cash from another passenger. The duo were arrested after they confessed to their crime. Further investigations are on.
