Coimbatore : The Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA) in association with Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI) has organized the 5th edition of the Coimbatore Book Festival 2019 from July 19 to 28 at the Codissia Trade Fair Complex, Coimbatore.
Coimbatore : The Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA) in association with Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI) has organized the 5th edition of the Coimbatore Book Festival 2019 from July 19 to 28 at the Codissia Trade Fair Complex, Coimbatore.
The Coimbatore Book Festival 2019 will be inaugurated by the District Collector, K Rajamani at 6 pm on July 19. Addressing the media with regard to the Coimbatore Book Festival, R Ramamurthy, President of CODISSIA said, "CODISSIA is organising this Book Festival as a part of its CSR activity. We are doing this to inculcate and improve reading habits among children and youth. For the first time this year, an essay writing competition for students was conducted as part of the Coimbatore Book Festival 2019, in association with the Rotary Clubs of Coimbatore. The response has been overwhelming and we have received 3000 essays, out of which the best 1000 essays will be selected for special prizes worth Rs.3 to 4 lakhs. The remaining essays will also be recognized with certificates," he added.
Vijayanandh, Chairman, CBF elaborated on the various activities planned during the event. "This event is organised to improve the reading habit of Coimbatoreans. Starting this year, the Coimbatore Book Festival will be giving away cash prizes and citation to young writers in three categories - Fiction, Non-fiction and Poetry. The award for the young fiction story writer was won by Guna Kandasamy. The Young Poet award was won by Solai Mayavan and the Best writer for Non-fiction category was won by Gurusamy. All the awards consist of a cash prize of Rs, 25,000 and a citation. On July 21, CODISSIA is honouring noted writer Vannanilavan with the 'Lifetime Achievement Award' that comes with a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh and a certificate of appreciation during the inaugural function," detailed Vijayanandh.

Two programs have been scheduled for July 22.
i.) BIG BANG - "Let's Make Engineering Easy" - An initiative to encourage young aspiring engineering minds to learn engineering the easiest way with 'Do It Yourself' kits and workshops, organized by LMES Academy.
ii.) ARIVUKENNI - An exclusive initiative by CODISSIA in association with the Rotary Clubs of Coimbatore which will involve installation of libraries in 100 schools, for which a felicitation ceremony is being organized on July 22, from 3 pm to 5 pm.
Motivational speaker Suki Sivam will take the stage on the evening of July 22.
An exclusive drama predicting the life of Mahakavi Bharathiar will be held on July 23.
'Pennpa,' a special program will be held on july 25, in which 50 female poets will participate, followed by a special meeting with the famous 'Dabbawala' group.
The last edition of CBF had 1 lakh visitors and over 1 crore worth of book sales. This year, the organisers are expecting 2 lakh visitors and business of 3.5 crores.
