CCMC Commissioner requests all wards in Coimbatore Corporation to set up Rain Water Harvesting

Coimbatore: A discussion meeting on rainwater harvesting was held at the Corporation Kalaiarangam at R S Puram, West Zone, Coimbatore. The CCMC Commissioner and Special Officer, Sravan Kumar Jatavath presided over the meeting in which setting up of the Rain Water Harvesting System (RWH) in all the wards of the Coimbatore Corporation was discussed.

Coimbatore: A discussion meeting on rainwater harvesting was held at the Corporation Kalaiarangam at R S Puram, West Zone, Coimbatore. The CCMC Commissioner and Special Officer, Sravan Kumar Jatavath presided over the meeting in which setting up of the Rain Water Harvesting System (RWH) in all the wards of the Coimbatore Corporation was discussed.

Sravan Kumar Jatavath said: "It is mandatory for residences. Government offices, hotels and private concerns belonging to the 100 wards of Coimbatore Corporation to set up the Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) system." He also ordered Corporation officials to inspect if the Rain Water Harvesting system is present in all the residential areas and to monitor if the already existing Rain Water Harvesting system is operating effectively, as well as to send notices to the buildings that do not have RWH set up, yet. The taxation process of only those buildings that have RWH already set up can get the new taxation done. 

The CCMC Commissioner ordered the Zonal Assistant Commissioners to take immediate action to create awareness on RWH to be set up in all the zones, using posts and vehicles to create awareness. He assigned a team of three persons per ward and one supervising officer for every five wards to monitor the works related to the RWH system. He requested the public to understand the importance of RWH and to set up the RWH system in their houses. 



Corporation Engineer Lakshmanan, Assistant Commissioner Senthil Arasan, Executive Engineers Gnanavel and Saravana Kumar, other engineers, Corporation officials and NGOs took part in the meeting. Meanwhile, on behalf of Jal Sakthi Abhiyan, Jayaseelan the Director of Ministry of Shipping visited the Chinnavedampatti Lake in Coimbatore district, regarding renovation work. Scientist Gnanasundaram, Assistant Commissioner of Corporation (North zone) Senthilkumar Rathnam and Assistant Executive Engineer Johnson were present.
