District Collector Innocent Divya flags off awareness procession on organic farming in Ooty

The Nilgiris : The Nilgiris District Collector, Innocent Divya flagged off a procession in Ooty to create awareness on organic farming. The procession was organised by the Department of Horticulture and Plantation Crops with an aim to create toxin-free farming practices in the Nilgiris.

With farmers increasingly using chemicals in today's world, the Horticulture Department and the Mountain Crops Department conducted various sessions on organic farming for farmers in Nilgiris. The District Administration has also encouraged organic farming by providing various schemes to the farmers. Addressing the media, the District Collector said that it was important for every farmer to realise the inherent benefits of organic farming and the procession was to create awareness of those benefits. She also reiterated that the motive of the procession was to create a change in two years through organic farming in the District. 



Over 3000 farmers participated in the procession which started from the Ooty Central Bus Stand, led by the District Collector. The procession covered all the main streets in Ooty and culminated at the Ooty Government Botanical Garden. Thereafter, the District Collector advised the farmers on the importance of organic farming and its execution. 



The farmers who were from Ooty, Coonoor, Kotagiri and Gudalur participated in the procession bearing placards that highlighted the need to save the soil, encourage organic farming, make Nilgiris toxin-free and so on.
