Coimbatore : 228 houses at GM Nagar Ukkadam were evicted and houses were demolished today This was a part of encroachment removal of Coimbatore Corporation held together with the help of TANGEDCO and TamilNadu Slum Clearance Board.

CCMC has been evicting encroachments along water bodies recently and GM Nagar had encroachments for 1.5 kms along the downstream of Vaalankulam.
At Pullukadu 1840 houses were alloted to residents evicted from GM nagar, Majith colony and Vaalankulam. Pullukadu where the alternate tenanments were allocated is close to GM Nagar.
Commenting on this, a senior corporation official said, “The beneficiaries were already alloted houses at Pullukadu. Most of them have already vacated and have occupied the alloted new houses. But the issue is once they vacate somebody else occupy those houses before we demolish the structures and so we had to do eviction simultaneously.“.
