Coimbatore: The city police arrested the owners of Sri Vasanthi Enterprises located near the L G bus stop on Sakthi Road, in Sivanandapuram, Saravanampatti, Vasanthi (38) and her husband Santhosh were arrested for tricking many gullible youth and making them part with huge sums of money for jobs abroad.

Santhosh is the son of Subramaniam, a resident of Anbu Nagar, Edayarpalayam, Coimbatore. Having completed his Diploma in Engineering, Santhosh approached Sri Vasanthi Enterprises in the hope of landing a foreign job. The couple assured Santhosh of a job abroad, reassuring him that in the past few years they had helped in sending 100 individuals to many foreign countries for jobs and promised him a job in Australia on par with his education.
They asked him to pay Rs.6 lakhs for the tourist visa to Australia but made him halt at Indonesia. Later, they demanded Rs.3 lakhs more from Santhosh's father to send him from Thailand to Australia. But since Santhosh was unable to get a work visa, he returned to India and realised that he had been cheated by the couple and hence registered a complaint against them with the Crime Branch.
On investigation, it was found out that the couple had cheated over 10 youth, fleecing amounts of Rs.3 lakhs to Rs.6 lakhs from each of them them, which totalled to about 40 lakhs, all on the pretext of placing them in jobs across foreign countries. Based on the order of Sumit Saran, the Commissioner of Police, Perumal, the Deputy Commissioner of Police supervised the investigation.
A team led by the Joint Commissioner Chandrasekaran, Inspector J Nagarajan, Sub Inspector K Jamuna and other policemen arrested the couple on July 15 and handed them over to the court.
